Course overview
This course will appeal to applicants who have the goal of completing an Honours year in mathematics. Gain a foundation in the principles and techniques of modern mathematics and learn how to apply these skills to solve today's problems. The Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences (Honours) prepares graduates for employment in a wide range of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematic (STEM) industries. Potential occupations data and analytics officer, quantitative assistant trader and consumer research executive; potential employers may include research centres, universities and public and private companies. The Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences (Honours) has been designed to provide graduates with a strong foundation in both the theoretical and the practical aspects of applied mathematics and statistics and the ability to critically analyse and evaluate mathematical and statistical information, to create models and solve problems. On completion of the degree you will be able to proficiently use mathematical skills and knowledge to analyse and systematically develop complex systems and develop mathematical solutions that address problems arising from a variety of social, political, international, economic and environmental contexts. You will also be able to apply research skills appropriate to postgraduate research or advanced industrial investigation. The Australian Mathematical Society does not formally accredit university degrees but does publish accreditation standards. Flinders University's Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences (Honours) has been designed to exceed these standards.
