In the fields of arts and social science, such research has deepened our collective understanding of global challenges such as inequality, poverty, human rights, cultural preservation, and conflict and violence. Today, ongoing research continues to provide unique insights and perspectives around cross-disciplinary issues such as climate change, corruption, health inequity and food security. The Master of Research in Arts is a unique postgraduate research training degree that will equip you to complete a PhD within three years, if further research is your goal. With mentoring from experts in your field, you’ll specialise in research preparation and focus on a specific research topic at the sub-discipline level to deliver a 20,000-word thesis. The degree also provides a strong background for employment in a range of national and international non-academic settings.

A high level of English language proficiency Completion of the MQ Graduate Diploma of Research with a WAM of 65+. OR an AQF-8 or higher award (Bachelor Honours, Graduate Diploma, Master by coursework) from a recognised institution in a related field of study or equivalent Applicants with MQ qualifications from 2020 onwards (WAM): 65 overall, and 70 in the final year of a Bachelor Honours _or_ highest level study. All other applicants (GPA): 4.38/7 overall, and 5.25/7 in the final year of a Bachelor Honours _or_ highest level of study. Some disciplines may have additional entry requirements such as a portfolio of work or a higher level of performance in previous study. Please refer to theAdditional Entry Requirements to Master of Research coursesfor more information. Admission to the course is subject to there being an appropriate fit between the applicant, research environment, available resources and supervision. Planning reference: missing 2027 requirements use the latest published requirements from 2026; newer explicit 2027 requirements take precedence.
