A PhD is undertaken through the Monash Doctoral Program a PhD for the 21st century. At the core of the program is an extensive, independent research project on an agreed chosen topic, supported by at least two expert academic supervisors. This research component is enhanced by professional development activities or coursework units that provide you with the skills required to make an impact in academia, industry, government or the wider community. Your study will result in a research thesis or alternative approved output, which makes a valuable contribution to the current body of knowledge on your chosen topic.

1. Monash graduate research entry is degree-specific. Doctoral entry normally requires a relevant four-year bachelor degree with a research component at honours H2A level, or a relevant master's with a substantial research component at H2A-equivalent standard. Research master's entry normally uses the corresponding H2B standard of 65 or above. Equivalent research qualifications and demonstrated research capacity may be assessed. 2. Relevant discipline and research component; H2A-equivalent standard for doctoral entry or H2B/65+ for research master's entry; faculty-specific criteria; English proficiency.
