Course overview
Explore the importance of biological processes on human health and environmental well-being. This degree combines aspects of molecular biology, cell physiology and microbiology with new computational approaches to discover fundamental aspects of life. The course also provides students the opportunity to explore areas of biotechnology, forensic science, plant science, environmental health, and biomedical sciences. You will graduate well-prepared for a career in any life-science related field. This course offers a flexible combination of molecular bioscience and life science topics and enables students to focus on the scientific basis of life. Students will explore the importance of diverse biological processes to enable mutual improvement in human and environmental wellbeing, and learn about new computational approaches to advance life sciences. Graduates will be able to develop extensive knowledge in both the theoretical and the practical aspects of life sciences and complete coursework components designed to address topical concerns in health, industry and society preparing them for employment in related fields. On completion of this degree there is an opportunity to apply for a one-year Honours degree. For further information visit http://www.flinders.edu.au/honours. Alternatively, applicants interested in applying for a four-year Honours degree in this science field can apply for the Bachelor of Science (Honours) (Life Sciences) (SATAC code: 244791). Expand your career options by combining this degree with the Bachelor of Engineering (Biomedical) (Honours) (SATAC code 224781). Combining degrees enables students to follow their interests and aspirations and enhance their career prospects by undertaking a second area of study in addition to their primary degree. Completing an approved combined degree option will normally add at least one extra year (full-time equivalent) to their studies. For example, students combining two three-year full-time equivalent degrees are normally able to complete both degrees in four years of full-time equivalent study. Students graduate with two degrees, expanding employment opportunities. For further information visit http://www.flinders.edu.au/combined-degrees.
